Our Approach to Healing

Tending to grief is like tending to a garden; it requires patience and care. Through AAF’s offerings, we will support you in learning practices that help you manage your grief.

Sources of grief are many: loss of a loved one, an identity, a vocation, the heartbreak of what we wished for that never happened. While one person might experience grief as anger, another might feel numb, and yet another might feel sadness. Each of these experiences is equally valid. Grieving is a nonlinear process. Instead of a straight line, imagine a spiral moving up a mountain top. At any point, we are looking at the same lookout, but from a different vantage point. So it is with grief. Grief doesn’t disappear, but our relationship to it does change over time.

Grief is a personal and unique experience, and there are touchstones that we can all relate to along the way. We believe that having community support as we grieve is essential. We welcome you to join our programming and to find what resonates with you in your healing process.
